A decade before founding FotoFest, photographers Frederick Baldwin and Wendy Watriss turned their attention and their camera lenses on the rural south, focusing on Latino communities along the Mexican border, German descendants in Central Texas, and on the racially-charged history of Grimes County, north of Houston.

These important projects - photographs and oral histories - are reexamined in the 2018 film, LOW TURN ROW, about their work in Grimes County, and in a profile featured on PBS NewsHour this week.
